Noble & Cooley drums are the best I ever played
I'm professional, played 'em all. Probably Sonor, if you don't look for vintage sound...Gretsch and Ludwig, otherwise...again, Sonor for modern and those other two for classic- everything else wannabe these. Another thing - qualitywise - Sonor.

Truth is there are a lot of good drums out there. Every manufacturer has entry level, intermediate, and high end offerings. I think many of these comparisons are based on somebody playing one level of kit from one manufacturer versus a different level from another manufacturer; so the comparison doesn't mean anything. Best drum kit is the great drummer behind it who can make mid level kit sound like top pro studio kit. I have seen some of the top drummers played mid level kits and made them sound like their own custom signature kits. WoW
owned em all, played em all. right now i own a Yamaha Recording Custom, Pearl Masters, and a DW Collectors. Yamaha makes the best consistant high end drum set but DW makes the best Modern drums in the world. it's easy everyone... Just listen!

Roland V-Drums are the best! You get 50 kits in one and over 2,000 sounds! With my amp and daisy chained JBL sound factors I crank out 5,000 watts. You can't get this power or diversity with any acoustic set, therefore ROLAND ROCKS above all!!!

It's all personal preference, but I've been a professional for over twenty years and used to sell most of these brands for about 4-5 years at one of the largest PRE-Guitar Center outlets... so basically I've gotten to hear them all AND play them all. Pearl is a mass market kit... good hardware, but hardly a distinctive tone. Tama is a BETTER mass

Tough question but here is something to chew on. I own a DW Collector's Kit, GMS Kit, Yamaha Kit and Sonor Classix. The Sonor sounds the best hands down. The best hardware goes to the Yamaha. Nicest looking hardware goes to the DW. Put em all together and you will have the best kit made.

Pearl are not the best drums on the market at all. I play a set of Pearl Masters, and I love them don't get me wrong, but I play those because it fit's my price range. To get a N & C would have cost me thousands more, but that will be what I buy next, it'll be sexy
